By leading open innovation and co-creating commerce, we will create new services and products and take on challenges together with co-creation partners, and we will create a mechanism to deliver technologies and services created from 0 to 1 to society after growing them from 1 to 10. We will drive these initiatives by leveraging the strengths of trading companies.

In November 2023, as part of our open innovation activities, we held a program with the cooperation of the Kuwasawa Design school, a technical college, to think about future designs for products of Hitachi Channel Solutions, Corp.
The participants said that they would like to use the findings and viewpoints gained through the discussions with the students for future product creation and overall development.
We will continue to open up new business possibilities by Co-Sou.

Support for Research Activities

Going forward, as social issues become increasingly diverse and complex, our group will accelerate innovation toward solving social issues by combining the specialized knowledge and technological capabilities of universities with its experience and know-how.

Support for science and technology researchers (HAGIWARA FOUNDATION OF JAPAN)

We provide support for the activities of the Hagiwara Foundation of Japan, an organization that develops subsidized research projects to support research institutions, researchers, and engineers who are engaged in science and technology development in a variety of fields.

Examples of Industry-Academia Collaboration Activities: Joint research with Nagoya Institute of Technology

Hagiwara Electronics is conducting joint research using edge AI and drones with the Mechanical Control Laboratory (Professor Manabu Yamada) of the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Graduate School of Engineering, Nagoya Institute of Technology.
This research focuses on developing a demonstration system in which a wall-contact type drone collects sound data by tapping on wall surfaces, which is then analyzed by AI to determine the state of separation of exterior tiles of a building.

To date, we have implemented an AI model provided by Nagoya Institute of Technology that learns the sound of tapping on tiles into an RZ/V2L evaluation board, made by Renesas Electronics Co., Ltd., and verified the AI judgment of the the state of separation of exterior tiles by a theoretical analysis.
By replacing the work in which workers used to set up scaffolding and manually check for external wall abnormalities with an AI-equipped wall-contact type drone, we can expect various effects, such as solving the labor shortage and improving time efficiency, as well as ensuring work in a safe environment by reducing work at heights.

Examples of Industry-Academia Collaboration Activities: Exchange of Technologies and Human Resources with Tokyo University of Technology

We have been conducting human resource exchanges through in-house lectures and workshops led by Professor Shigeyuki Takagi of the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, School of Engineering, Tokyo Institute of Technology, who has extensive experience in the field of power electronics. This is due to our research support activities for next-generation automotive technologies, which are closely related to the business areas of the Hagiwara Electric Group. These activities not only deepen employee knowledge but also contribute to the promotion of technological exchanges both inside and outside the company.

In FY2024, we held two lectures covering a wide range of topics, from basic theories based on research results and practical experience to the latest technological trends. A total of 160 employees, including online participants, participated in the lectures. The participants were highly satisfied with the lectures, with comments such as, "The explanations were very easy to understand based on engineering experience," and "I was able to remember what I learned when I was a student."
