Material Issues

Identification and Review of Material Issues

In FY2021, the Hagiwara Electric Group identified four material issues by investigating and examining the importance of various social issues from the perspectives of both the business environment and stakeholders. In light of changes in the surrounding environment and medium- to long-term management strategies, we reviewed the materiality and, following a resolution by the Board of Directors in June 2024, redefined four material issues.
Building on the foundations and achievements of our past initiatives, we have identified key themes aligned with newly defined material issues. Through these themes, we have clarified our vision for a sustainable society and the future growth of our corporate group. We will work to deepen and refine our sustainability activities by linking them with the measures in the Medium-Term Management Plan.

Material Issues and Significant Themes

Growth Vision of the Hagiwara Electric Group Based on Material Issues

In "Enhancing Earnings Power," we will promote business activities based on two perspectives of the relationship between business activities and sustainability activities. While appropriately and organically linking material issues, we will pursue a sustainability approach that is unique to the Hagiwara Electric Group and aim to evolve our activities.

Sustainability Supported by Existing Business Models

The Hagiwara Electric Group is promoting the expansion of value provision through a solutions-oriented approach in Electronic Devices Business and Technology Solutions Business, which play a core role in our Group, and has set "expanding delivered value and reforming profit structure through a solutions-oriented approach" as a priority theme. By leveraging engineering services and data utilization, we will innovatively evolve our conventional business model and stably support the growth of a resilient supply chain while appropriately meeting customer needs. We will support the realization of the future mobility society and manufacturing sites, and the development and evolution of their application areas.

Sustainability Created in New Areas Leveraging the Strengths of the Hagiwara Electric Group

A key theme of our Group is “Creating New Value through Business Innovation” by leveraging our various expertise and assets, including the mobility business. Through collaboration between Electronic Devices Business and Technology Solutions Business, discovery of businesses in growing markets through data utilization services and AI technology, and collaboration with other companies to create businesses, we will be able to realize technological innovation and create sustainable products and services. By expanding value delivered through the creation of new businesses, we will expand our areas of contribution to social issues and realize a sustainable society and the growth of our group.

The Process of Identifying Material Issues

Step 1: Identify social issues that the Hagiwara Electric Group needs to contend with

Based on the issues and objectives that the Hagiwara Electric Group is currently contending with, we exchanged opinions while referring to various guidelines to identify and organize social issue topics as well as management issue topics related to Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), Environment, Social, and Governance (ESG), etc. that should be pursued in the future.

Step 2: Narrow these issues down to the most significant issues

Material issues and the most significant topics were selected from among the items identified in step 1 after discussions by sustainability committee,  management meetings and the board of directors, based on the following perspectives and taking into account the degree of impact on company management and the degree of significance for society and stakeholders.

  • Society expectations, customer expectations, and the Hagiwara Electric Group’s aspirations for the future
  • The solving of customer problems, the creation of value, and objectives for contributing to future-oriented social development through our business, within the scope of the Hagiwara Electric Group’s business models and business domains
  • Our medium-term management plan and our medium- and long-term growth strategy
  • Environment, Social, and Governance (ESG) measures that need to be strengthened for the Hagiwara Electric Group to improve corporate value

Step 3: Decide on Material Issues

Approved at a meeting of the Board of Directors of Hagiwara Electric Holdings Co., Ltd.

Step 4: Review of Material Issues

Material issues will be reviewed as necessary in light of changes in the business environment and social trends.
